Leadership for Life: Over the summer holidays, Leaving Certificate students Alanna Cassidy and Tara Noonan participated in Foroige’s Leadership for Life Programme in NUI Maynooth. Over 300 young people attended this Youth Conference.  Over the course of the week, both girls participated in a number of leadership workshops, heard from a variety of guest speakers and participated in many evening activities such as team building, novelty sports, quiz night, talent night and gala dinner. Next summer, Alanna and Tara will return to Maynooth to completed Module 2 of this programme. We wish them the very best of luck. Both girls are members of Ballymahon Foroige Club. Well done to all concerned.

Creative Writing: Our Second Year students were recently delighted to attend a Creative Writing workshop in Dublin. Fighting Words is a creative writing centre established by Roddy Doyle and Sean Love. Inspired by 826 National in the United States, Fighting Words is located on Behan Square, Russell Street, Dublin 1 – very close to Croke Park. Fighting Words helps students of all ages to develop their writing skills and to explore their love of writing. Special thanks to Ms. Smyth and Mr. Dennigan who organised the trip.

TY Work Experience: Transition year is a time to learn more about yourself and develop life skills that will be important in the years to come. Transition Year students at Ballymahon Vocational School are currently out on Work Experience. Often reported as one of the highlights of TY, a work experience placement gives you the opportunity to see what the world of work is really like. We would like to thank our many valued partners in the community for allowing our students the opportunity to go out on Work Experience in their businesses and enterprises. Your contribution to the life of our school community is very much valued.
