School Notes 05/12/2018

Success for U-16 Basketball Team: It has been an eventful week for the U-16 girls basketball team. Last Thursday, they played Athlone Community College in the regional quarter final and had a great win (46-25). This saw the girls progress onto the regional semi-final which was played in Clane, Co. Kildare last Thursday. Unfortunately the girls were narrowly beaten after a nail-biting semi-final. This sees the girls finish their season for 2018. Ms Mulcahy and Ms Leen want to commend the girls on their fantastic sportsmanship, discipline and teamwork that was displayed throughout the last number of months. BVS, your teachers and your peers are all very proud of your achievements. What wonderful role models for the school you are, each and every one of you.

Panto-Time: Our TY Students are really looking forward to their out this week to the Olympia Theatre to see this year’s Panto ‘Polly and the Magic Lamp’. We shall have a full review on this panto next week!!

We encourage everyone in our school community to take part and bring a little Christmas light into the lives of others. Thank You.

Good luck to all concerned.

Bodyright: This is a training programme for teachers and youth workers that looks at sexual violence, myths and laws around the issue, how young people can prevent sexual violence and be aware of their own rights to body space, and what is or is not appropriate in terms of sexuality. The programme is run by Dublin Rape Crisis Centre and has been delivered by 92 school staff at 71 second-level schools and 56 youth services since 2010. BodyRight is not a standalone programme but is integrated into existing Social, Personal and Health Education programmes. In Ballymahon Vocational School all senior students were recently given the option to access the BodyRight Programme during their Senior Cycle SPHE classes. The programme tackled the issue of non-consensual sexual activity and attempted to better equip students with the knowledge needed to navigate their teenage years and the difficulties faced in the modern world. Students learned how to resource themselves in the moment and to know how to exercise their personal rights. Thank you to Ms. Ryan who facilitated this very worthwhile and informative programme in our school.

Christmas Carol Service: This year our service takes place on Thursday 13th December. Students from the entire school community are busy preparing for this special event that will see our whole school community come together.

Get Well: We wish a speedy recover to all students who are unwell at this time and we hope to see you back in school very soon.
