Basketball Success for BVS Boys: Well done to both our 1st and 2nd year boys’ basketball teams who were victorious in their recent match. Both teams travelled to Mucklagh Community Centre to play Kilbeggan. Two great games were played and both teams came home with the win. Well done to all involved.
Inspire Talk: Students of Ballymahon Vocational School were recently active participants in an exciting programme organised in collaboration with Athlone Institute of Technology and software engineering giants Ericsson. In Ericsson Ireland Software Campus Athlone, a range of initiatives that focus on creating enthusiasm around Software Engineering abound, with the aim of motivating students at all levels of education to consider a career in Technology & Software Engineering. As part of this programme Transition Year and 5th years from BVS got the opportunity to participate in a session around the future of software engineering in a fun and interactive way, as they were introduced to a whole new world of telecommunications. While attending an information session on the work carried out in Ericsson Ireland, the students also learned more about how the software written in the Athlone campus plays an important part in the mobile industry. The realities of life as an engineer were discussed as student attention was focussed on the degree pathways you can take to study in AIT. Special thanks to our speakers on the day and thanks to Ms. Corkery, Guidance Dept. who organised this event.

Parent Teacher Meeting: A Second Year Parent Teacher meeting took place on Wednesday, February 6th in Ballymahon Vocational School. At BVS, we believe that the Parent Teacher meeting is an important time to meet with your child’s teachers in a one to one setting. As always, we had a very high turnout as we met with all parents/guardians to discuss the progress of students in our school community.

NUI Maynooth Visit: Our Leaving Cert students recently attended the Biology and Physics practical experiment day in the National Univeristy of Ireland, Maynooth. A great day was had by all and lots was learned, forming the basis for perfect revision leading up to the mocks. Thanks to Ms. Mulcahy and the Science Dept. for organising this most worthwhile opportunity.

Incoming First Year Entrance Exam: Thank you for coming along to our recent Incoming First Year Assessment Day at Ballymahon Vocational School. It was great to meet with all students and parents/guardians. We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to meet staff & new friends and we look forward to working with you. Safer Internet Day 2019: It has been a busy week for our Internet Safety Ambassadors Ava Fallon and Eoghan McCormack (Fifth Year) as Safer Internet Day drew near. Ava and Eoghan actively led our school campaign for Safer Internet Day by giving interactive workshops, running competitions and spreading the general message of internet safety. Students across the school community participated in discussions around how to #BeInCtrl online. More to follow next week.
